Dear Sir:

Re: 238 Chelsea Street, Nanaimo, B.C.

We are in receipt of your letter of the 28th ultimo regarding the above property (Lots 9 and 10 in Block 115, Newcastle Townsite, of Section 1, Nanaimo District, Plan 366).

When replying to the Spanish Consul (11/9/1944) regarding your complaint on the subject of late remittance of rent, we added the information that your property is in course of being sold. We are now awaiting completed documents from Ottawa and on receipt of those will affect delivery to the purchaser and forward you a complete statement of the transaction.

This sale is one of many made under instruction from Ottawa in conformity with their policy of orderly liquidation of coastal properties. Every care is exercised to secure fair prices, all properties being appraised by qualified independent appraisers, and bids received being submitted to an advisory committee appointed by Ottawa. However, should you feel you have reason to be dissatisfied with the result you will in due course be free to exercise your right to take the appropriate legal action to substantiate your claim.

The tenants have paid August/September/October/November rent but the 2nd September being the agreed date of adjustment with purchaser, 2 months rent only is available for distribution and we enclose our cheque for $18.00 (2 months @ $10.00 less $2.00 collection fee).

Yours truly,

R G Bell,
