RE: Mr. and Mrs. Tsurukichi Takemoto Greenwood
I attach copies of two letters from the above Japanese date the 5th instant. These letters contain strong protest regarding the treatment they have received, and policy may dictate a special reply, otherwise I should simply point out the following:
1. The liquidation of property was made in accordance with the policy of the Government.
2. They have had four years to use the facilities offered by the Department of Labour to send for their things by applying for the customary Custodian Release forms.
As far as the two radios are concerned, the following facts require no amplification:
The two radios were sold at auction for a total of $108.76
The two radios were appraised for a total of $70.00
Takemoto now asserts the radios were worth the sum of $475.00. None of the radios were sold before we obtained ceiling prices from the Price Control Board. I note that one of the radios was a bettery set, the other one a Sparton Consol, both unpopular types, but at no time did our auctioneer Mr. Thompson, permit the radios to sell at a sacrifice, nor was there any occasion to do so, as the demand for radios was very strong and continuous, and remains so even to the present day.
Unless you wish to answer these letters personally, I shall endevour to Pour oil on troubled waters.
