COPY FOR MR. SHEARS' COMPLAINT FILE
16th December, 1946
Mrs. Hisa TAKIGUCHI,
Reg. No. 13568,
c/o [care of] Victory Tourist Homes,
120 Church Street,
Toronto, Ontario.
Dear Madam:
We wish to acknowledge your letter of the 7th December, and have carefully noted your remarks.
The liquidation of properties previously owned by Japanese was carried out by this office on instructions from the Canadian Government at Ottawa, on the basis of appraised valuations. While we appreciate that this is a matter of personal concern to you, we must advise that we are unable to consider any other alternative in the matter.
Regarding your chattels, it is unfortunate that so much petty thievery took place, notwithstanding constant patrolling by the Custodian representatives and also the police officers in the different districts. When our fieldmen removed your chattels to auction, everything that was considered to be of sale value was removed. At the public auctions because of the shortage of materials of all kinds, on the whole very good prices were obtained. It is unfortunate that you are dissatisfied, however at this time the Custodian is not in a position to make adjustments of any kind in the matter.
Yours truly,
W. E. Anderson,
Office of the Custodian
